College Profile

The Govt. Degree College, Naidupet, S.P.S.R.NELLORE Dt. was established in the year 1983 catering to the needs of mostly under privileged sections in and around Naidupet town. It has a vast campus of 6.04 Acres. At the beginning, the college didn’t have its own land and buildings. So it was started in a private establishment and later on shifted to Panchayat Samiti Office Premises. After prolonged efforts by the college, the land and buildings were handed over to the college in the year 2010.
The college initially started conventional courses like B.A and B.Com subsequently Science courses were introduced in the year 1995 along with the restructured courses in B.Sc and B.Com. Majority of the students pursuing the course belong to the underprivileged sections of the society and the women constitute 30% of the college strength as the college is a co – educational one. The college is graded with ‘B’ by NAAC, Bangalore and is now preparing for re accreditation. The college is striving hard to achieve its vision and mission through lofty standards in teaching, research and extension activities by involving all the stake holders to impart quality education.
Details of affiliation:
The college was initially under the preview of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and later on it was affiliated to Vikrama Simhapuri University, Nellore during the year 2010 – 2011. The college has to follow the rules and regulation of the University for Intake of students during admissions as well as the conduct of examinations by following the almanac issued by the university. Limited autonomy exists for introducing new courses in the college.
Progress of Institution Science Establishment:
The college initially started with nearly 75 students and now rose to strength of 250 in number. Originally the college was established in a private building. The college subsequently acquired land and building of its own. The college initially started conventional courses like B.A and B.Com subsequently science courses were introduced in the year, 1995 along with restructured courses in B.Sc and B.Com. The college has a very good library containing 8000 reference books, journals and 1000 reference books purchased under book bank scheme covering all the subjects catering to the needs of both staff and students. GYM facilities are available as part of physical educations department.
The college appoints various committees by involving both the teaching and the non – teaching staff for the smooth running of the college in helping the administration and both academic as well as administrative matters.
The college offers scholarships to socially deprived sections of the college under fee reimbursement scheme of the state Government of Andhra Pradesh. To meet the requirement of the students to train them on various academic and extracurricular activities, the college offers Eco – Club, Carrier Grievance Redressal Cell, Consumer club, Red Ribbon Club, Anti Ragging Cell, Women Empowerment cell and also NSS unit as per the guidelines of Government as well as university.
The college also offers UG Courses of Distance Education of Dr. Ambedkar Open University by establishing a study centre in the college in the year 1996. The classes run on Sundays as well as Holidays. Nearly 214 students are presently pursuing the course. Science laboratories are well equipped for conducting practicals. The computer lab is established and nearly 40 systems are available. The college has also internet Facilities. ‘The college has sent proposals to UGC for financial assistance to organize national seminars as well as for pursuing minor research projects by the departments of English, commerce and Botany during the academic year 2012 – 13 and UGC sanctioned financial assistance for national seminar in English. The Dept.of English successfully organized the National Seminar during 22 & 23 November, 2013. The college organizes various academic programmes like conducting seminars, workshops and academic exchange programmes every year. The college has been assessed and accredited by NAAC, Bangalore as art of quality assessment and graded with B during the year 2008 and graded with again B in the year 2016 is now matching towards reaccreditation. Internal quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established on 12/02/2008 to monitor various academic activities by appointing a Co-Ordinator. Jawahar Knowledge Centre was established in the college during the year, 2007 with a view train the students to impart spoken English and soft skills among the students Every Year 2 to 3 batches were run as per the instructions. Students after training participates in recruitment drives offered by various companies now & then. The college has organized a job mela in the last academic year.
Current Status:
Recently the college has been recognized by U.G.C, NEW DELHI under 2F & 12B. The college has completed five years of its 2nd cycle of accreditation and is now preparing 3rd cycle of accreditation. The IQAC wing of the college is monitoring the academic activities to fulfill the parameters as required by NAAC, Bangalore. Academic audit, a monitoring body of the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Govt. Of Andhra Pradesh., Vijayawada, visited the college during the last Academic Year and verified the academic records maintained by the Teaching staff including the NAAC reaccreditation activities of the departments. Their suggestions were recorded and subsequently submitted the action taken report to the Commissionarate of Collegiate Education, Govt. Of A.P., Vijayawada. Now the Academic audit for the year 2021-22 is due.
The college arranges MANA TV programmes to the students to view the live telecast of lessons subject wise as per the time table supplied by the CCE office, Hyderabad which is a continuous one. As per the direction of the identified college Nellore the college conducts various activities under District Resource Centre which is meant for organizing academic activities. The college represents several issues pertaining to the college before DCE DRC, a committee formed under the chairmanship of Dist. Collector, Nellore. Staff members attend orientation and refresher course offered by the Academic Staff College to update their Knowledge and also for their career advancement.
